(eap) The role of amusement parks as an economic driving force can hardly be illustrated more clearly in Germany than by the example of the Europa-Park Resort in Rust. The municipality in Baden-Württemberg, with around 5,000 inhabitants, has developed over the past decades into an internationally established tourism destination. Against this background, Mayor Dr. Kai-Achim Klare has appointed Europa-Park owner Jürgen Mack as an honorary citizen of the municipality.

In his speech, Klare described Europa-Park as the “engine of the municipality’s economic success” and highlighted in particular the achievements of Jürgen Mack in his role as managing director. He said Mack had made a significant contribution to the sustainable stability and growth of the family business. In particular in the areas of human resources, finance and controlling, he had created key structural foundations that would underpin the long-term success of the Europa-Park. Without his expertise, negotiating skills and continuous commitment, the development of the company in this form would not have been conceivable, Klare added.

In addition to the economic achievements, the mayor also emphasized Jürgen Mack’s social commitment. Entrepreneurship, he said, would for Mack be inseparably linked with social responsibility. This would be reflected, among other things, in the support of refugees, in his commitment to social projects as well as in his long-standing involvement in clubs and church initiatives. Together with his wife Mauritia Mack, he makes a sustainable contribution to the common good in Rust and the wider region.

Jürgen Mack thanked the municipality for the special honour: “This award means a great deal to me and fills me with great gratitude. For 38 years, Rust has not only become a home for us, but also a place full of opportunities where ideas emerge that inspire people from all over the world and at the same time benefit the entire region. It stands for the close and long-standing connection of our family with the municipality of Rust.” He further thanked his wife Mauritia as an important advisor as well as his two children Frederik and Alexia Mack for deciding to continue the family business in the next generation together with the family of his brother Roland Mack.

With this appointment, Jürgen Mack is one of only five personalities to whom honorary citizenship of the municipality of Rust has been awarded. This honour had previously also been bestowed upon his father Franz Mack as well as his brother Roland Mack. ■
