Loro Parque Appoints Mike Jordan as New Zoo Director
(eap) Loro Parque, located on the Canary Island of Tenerife, has appointed British zoologist Mike Jordan (photo) as its new Zoological Director. With more than three decades of experience in zoology and wildlife conservation – including ten years in a leading role at the UK’s Chester Zoo – Jordan presents himself as the ideal candidate for the position.
“Mike Jordan not only brings an impeccable track record, but also a contagious passion for conservation. His arrival reinforces our commitment to zoological excellence and environmental education, pillars that have defined Loro Parque for more than 50 years,” comments Wolfgang Kiessling, President and Founder of Loro Parque.
Jordan, who is a trained military officer and has spent more than twenty years working in universities, conservation projects in Africa, and various zoological institutions, is enthusiastic about his new role: “Joining Loro Parque is an honour and a real professional challenge. Here, innovation and respect for animal life are uniquely integrated. Loro Parque is recognised worldwide and being prat of its team is undoubtedly a real priviledge.”
During his time at Chester Zoo, Jordan led initiatives such as the development of a conservation master plan and played a key role in shaping the animal and plant collection strategy for the coming decade, working in collaboration with the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
Jordan’s appointment follows the recent additions of Ricardo Fernández de la Puente and Raúl Díaz to the Loro Parque Group’s management team. Last month, they took up their positions as Directors of Institutional Relations and Communications, respectively. ■
