Modernization of Leisure Pool Facility in Hamburg Progresses
(eap) According to its own information, Bäderland Hamburg, the municipal operating company responsible for public swimming pools in the city, has invested more than 200 million euros in Hamburg’s pool infrastructure in recent years. These investments have been directed towards the expansion and addition of facilities as well as important structural and energy-related refurbishments. With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, the operator recently marked the official start of construction for another project to be implemented at the Midsommerland leisure pool in Hamburg’s Harburg district. After nearly two years of closure, modernization, refurbishment, and expansion work on the aging facility are now progressing.
The project, with an estimated budget of around 52.5 million euros, includes the addition of a new training pool hall designed to provide sufficient capacity for swimming instruction, club sports, and recreational use in the future. In addition to the new 25-meter training pool with a diving area, the plans include a complete refurbishment of the facility in a Scandinavian/Swedish style, the creation of a modern sauna and family area, and the energy optimization of the entire complex.
Susan Zetzmann, who has been serving as the new CEO of the Hamburg-based operator group since this summer, expressed her appreciation for this milestone project and thanked all those involved. She commented: “At the time, Midsommerland was primarily designed as a place for leisure and relaxation, reflecting the wishes of the population. With the modernization, we are now creating a facility that additionally meets the demand for swimming lessons as well as private and club-organized training opportunities – thus making an important contribution to the Bäderland network south of the Elbe. We are investing in the future and in the sporting opportunities for our guests in Harburg and the Süderelbe area.” ■
