Momentum Leisure Buys Land Plot in Poland for New Theme & Water Park

(eap) The European developer in the leisure and entertainment sector Momentum Leisure has acquired a new plot of land in Gliwice, Upper Silesia (Poland), from the Belgian investment company Mitiska REIM with an area of around 6.7 hectares for the development of a theme and water park. The property is located next to the Europa Centralna shopping centre, which was acquired by Mitiska REIM last year – the group’s focus includes the development of so-called “convenience real estate” facilities, which include boutiques, restaurants and a wide range of leisure and entertainment facilities in addition to traditional retail outlets. “We are delighted to collaborate with Momentum Leisure on this project and to extend the offering of Europa Centralna with a theme and water park. Europa Centralna is already the largest retail center in the city – our goal is to turn it into a go-to destination in the region through a compelling offering of convenience retail, leisure and entertainment,” explains Sylvie Geuten-Carpentier, Managing Partner at Mitiska REIM.

Janusz Botorek, Board Member and shareholder of Karuzela Holding – Mitiska REIM’s Polish partner – has joined the project as co-investor and local operating partner. “We see huge potential for Europa Centralna as a convenience real estate asset. Strategically located in Upper Silesia, one of the most important economic regions in Poland, Europa Centralna is ideally placed to capitalize on the four million consumers who live within a 30-minute drive of the center,” says Botorek.

On the newly acquired site, Momentum Leisure plans to develop a theme and water park for children with families. Completion and opening are planned for 2026. Wouter Dekkers, the new CEO of Momentum Leisure since 1 April this year, comments: “This collaboration with Mitiska REIM is a real win-win because it integrates shopping and leisure in a perfect location. We are looking forward to developing this site – and perhaps other locations in the future – together. Moreover, as part of our net-zero strategy, both the theme and water park will be designed to meet the sustainability requirements.”

The new park development in Gliwice is Momentum Leisure’s fourth theme park location and second water park location in Poland – the development of a water park in Warsaw (in cooperation with the Belgian festival brand Tomorrowland) was announced at the end of last year. ■
