Netherlands: Farewell, Spookslot! – Efteling Says Goodbye to Haunted Castle Attraction

Nicht nur Gäste, sondern auch die Mitarbeiter Eftelings nahmen Abschied von der 1978 eröffneten Attraktion.

For 44 years, the “Spookslot” as one of the oldest attractions in the park provided scary fun for guests of Efteling … last Sunday, visitors to the Dutch theme park were able to experience the indoor attraction, which was opened in 1978, for the very last time. And the employees, some of whom had worked in the attraction for years, were also able to say goodbye. Because as we reported earlier, over the next two years, with “Danse Macabre”, a new visitor experience will be created here, as part of a completely new, 17,000 square meter themed area. The new area is expected to open in 2024 and will also feature a gastronomic offering, shops and entertainment.

Die Türen des Spukschlosses öffneten sich zum letzten Mal.

“We are closing a beautiful attraction in which many Efteling visitors literally learned to be afraid. For many, it was the first scary attraction of their lives and you never forget that,” said CEO Fons Jurgens. “We also owe the unique memories of this attraction to the employees of the Haunted Castle. That’s why we wanted them to be able to experience the very last show in a closed circle while saying goodbye. We have mixed feelings on this day. On the one hand, it is a great pity that the Haunted Castle cannot be preserved. But the building from the 1970s is not in a good condition inside and outside. For this reason, we have decided to redesign the area. A great themed area is being created that will be even scarier and where scary fun will once again play the main role.” (eap)
