New Indoor Experience in Amsterdam: WOPL! Focuses on Play & Learning
(eap) Amsterdam now offers a new indoor attraction for families: WOPL! (World of Play & Learning) sees itself as a space for shared play, discovering and learning. Three thematically staged experience areas are aimed at children up to eight years of age and are intended to specifically foster their creativity and curiosity. The offer is complemented by a family café serving snacks and beverages.
The “Wereld van Water” (World of Water) is dedicated to the element of water in its various facets. Children guide water droplets through a course, fish objects out of the WOPL! boat or create large soap bubbles. In doing so, water is conveyed both as a playful element and as an important resource.
In the “Wereld van Bouwen” (World of Building), active engagement takes center stage. Young visitors load dump trucks, set chain reactions in motion or explore a construction pit. Learning here is based on independent action, experimentation and physical activity.
The “Wereld van Kunst” (World of Art), in turn, provides space for creative development. Children can paint digitally, draw on large surfaces, experiment with art puzzles or explore colors with the help of light. Creativity is understood as an open process without a predefined outcome.
Claire Bendel (Founder) and Pien Lucassen (Co-founder and Operating Director) conceived the world of play and learning together with the Amsterdam-based creative design agency NorthernLight. Production was the responsibility of Brandwacht en Meijer, while 50LUX handled the lighting design. ■
