New Indoor Swimming Pool Facility for Lohne
(eap) Construction work on a new indoor swimming pool in the Lower Saxony town of Lohne is set to begin in April 2026. It will replace the two dilapidated pool facilities currently in use and will serve schools, clubs, and families alike as a modern, functional facility. The state of Lower Saxony is contributing to the construction of the new indoor swimming pool in Lohne and is financing the project with 1.5 million euro. This is the highest possible amount of funding that can be awarded under the current sports facility investment program of the federal state. Together, the city of Lohne and the administrative district of Vechta are investing 25.8 million euro in the project.
The conceptual design for the new indoor swimming pool was created by the architectural planning firm Krieger Architekten. The plans envisage the creation of a 25-meter-six-lane sports pool and a teaching pool with an adjustable floor. Barrier-free access, energy-efficient building technology, and a photovoltaic system are also part of the concept. In future, the new indoor pool and the Waldbad Lohne outdoor pool will be merged in terms of organization and will also offer a uniform ticketing system. The official tendering process for the various trades is set to begin before the end of this year. The pool is expected to be completed in spring 2028. ■
