New Play Fun at German Allwetterzoo Münster

(eap) Germany’s Allwetterzoo Münster has modernised its play offer for children and redesigned its “Tiger Playground” this summer. The centrepiece of the area is a new climbing tower with a slide. It is joined by a climbing course made of ropes, wooden logs and chains, which is intended to promote a range of motor skills.

The new offering also includes the barrier-free “Vogelnest” (Eng.: Bird’s Nest) play element, which is designed to enable children with and without disabilities to enjoy shared play experiences. It is complemented, among other things, by a sound play feature and a sand pulley system. The existing playing carousel has also remained part of the playground. As part of the modernization, it was refurbished and integrated into the new concept. The sand replaced during the redevelopment was reused in animal enclosures at the zoo.

The climbing and play elements are designed to challenge children according to their age and abilities and thus remain attractive in the long term. “Playgrounds are an important part of a zoo visit for many families. With the redesign of the tiger playground, we have created a modern and engaging place where children can play, explore and be active together”, says Zoo Director Dr. Simone Schehka, describing the offering.

Funding of 150,000 euros was available for the redevelopment. Brandenburg-based company Spielbau manufactured the playground, while the zoo carried out the installation together with local company Böcker. ■
