OpenAire to Supply Retractable Roofs for Mattel Indoor Waterparks

(eap) Canadian company OpenAire, a provider of all-aluminum large span structures with retractable roofs, today announced its collaboration with American Resort Management to supply retractable roof enclosures for the planned Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks.

The Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks are set to be developed at a total of five locations, including Orlando, Florida, and Weldon Mills, North Carolina. Toy company Mattel is working with American Resort Management and waterpark design specialist Martin Aquatic to develop diverse aquatic experience landscapes centred around Mattel brands such as “Barbie” and “Hot Wheels”. The partner for the water attractions and large slides is fellow Canadian company WhiteWater West.

To support energy-efficient operation, OpenAire will equip the individual locations with modern motorised retractable roof solutions, which will span a width of more than 55 metres and a length of around 115 to almost 122 metres. These can be opened to reveal the sky and allow fresh air and natural sunlight into the waterpark halls. The company will also construct glass sidewalls and vertical glass ends.

The roof structures, made of painted, corrosion-free aluminium, will each be individually designed to withstand the climatic conditions of the geographic locations of the Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks, including heavy rain, storms and snow. According to OpenAire, the motorised roof and the likewise operable windows are designed to enable estimated annual energy savings of 15 per cent and thereby contribute to more sustainable operation of the waterparks.

Richard Coleman, CEO at American Resort Management, comments: “OpenAire will bring a competitive innovation advantage to the new Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks. By putting these new indoor waterparks in energy efficient, retractable roof, corrosion free aluminum buildings, these parks operate more cost effectively than traditional indoor waterparks. These waterparks will establish the new standard for which global brands will need to exceed. It is critical that owners of waterparks plan for the future in terms of partner reliability, building performance and operational excellence. As the operator of other parks in OpenAire retractable roof buildings, our team know that these structures both meet and exceed all expectations.”

Mark Albertine, CEO of OpenAire, states: “Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark represents the future of the indoor waterpark industry. By engineering and building structures that can withstand the harsh chemical realities of indoor waterparks, while at the same time saving both money and reducing energy use, means we are turning indoor waterparks into viable economic solutions for municipalities around the nation.” ■
