Panoramic Views over Kilometre-Long Routes on New CoasterKarts in Asia
(eap) Two new CoasterKart installations from German manufacturer Wiegand have recently opened in Asia. One installation marks the first of this product type in China and, with a length of over 2,000 metres, is also the longest version of the attraction model, which was introduced in 2020. Another CoasterKart, with a track length of one kilometre, has recently gone into operation in the outdoor area of the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum in South Korea.

The first CoasterKart in China is located in Xuzhou, a city in the north of the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu. The electrically powered attraction was realised along a mountainside at the top of which a viewing point is located. In addition to offering an experience for visitors, the CoasterKart therefore also serves as a passenger transport system, enabling guests to travel from the lakeside promenade at the foot of the mountain to the viewing point and back again. The installation area on the densely wooded mountain was limited, meaning that around 80 per cent of the route was implemented as a two-level layout. A total of 40 vehicles are in use, each offering space for two passengers seated side by side. Oncoming rides as well as parallel sections on the upper and lower levels create a ride experience intended to encourage guests to take repeat rides. In addition to the interactive ride fun, during which passengers can control the speed of their CoasterKart themselves – the maximum speed is up to 40 km/h depending on the section of track – the attraction offers panoramic views of the city skyline. The client for the project was Xuzhou Yunlong Lake Tourism Management Co. Ltd..

In South Korea, the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum in Ulsan now also has a CoasterKart attraction. There, ten marine mammal-themed vehicles are available to visitors, allowing them to speed along the 1,040-metre-long route while admiring life-size whale exhibits. According to manufacturer Wiegand, further CoasterKart projects are already being planned in both South Korea and China. ■
