Port des Lumières: New Program & Education Days

(eap) Starting this coming Saturday, August 29, 2026, Port des Lumières in Hamburg is inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the works of Claude Monet. Under the title “Monet – Master of Impressionism”, the immersive art center is presenting an interpretation of the famous works of the French painter – from his depictions of Rouen Cathedral to the renowned motifs from his garden in Giverny. The program will be available in Hamburg for the first time, while visitors to Phoenix des Lumières in Dortmund have already been able to marvel at the projected, playful landscape paintings. The exhibition coincides with the year marking the 100^th anniversary of Monet’s death. The combination of room-filling projections and a specially curated soundtrack, for which Port des Lumières is known, is intended to enable visitors to experience Monet’s works in a multidimensional way.

“Our new show ‘Monet – Master of Impressionism’ is an experience for all the senses: Being able to move among the works, surrounded by magnificent colors, light and sounds in the impressive space of Port des Lumières, is an absolutely uplifting experience – and no one needs to be an expert on art, Monet or France to enjoy it. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the many visitors who want to be inspired by this show,” said Sebastian Gey, Head of Operations at Port des Lumières.

The exhibition is accompanied by a subsequent short program focusing on the works of Swiss-French painter Félix Édouard Vallotton. “Félix Vallotton – Light in the Darkness” illustrates that although Vallotton was a contemporary of Monet, his almost graphic-looking, realistic paintings with their clear formal language provide a striking contrast to Monet’s works. Culturespaces Studio^® was responsible for the production of the exhibitions. Creative direction was led by Nicolas Charlin (Monet) and Patrick Vuittenez (Vallotton). Cutback was responsible for graphic and animation design, while Start-Rec oversaw music supervision and mixing.

With the opening of the show, Port des Lumières is also introducing its so-called “Education Days” for the first time, placing greater emphasis on its role as an extracurricular learning venue. From August 29 through September 13, 2026, teachers and education professionals are invited to experience the programs free of charge and learn more about the opportunities available for school classes and educational groups. ■
