(eap) The leisure pool rheinwelle in Gau-Algesheim (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its extension building this past Monday. If construction proceeds according to plan, the indoor pool extension complementing the leisure pool area is scheduled to open in 2027 and will create additional capacity with a multifunctional teaching pool as well as an additional 25-meter sports swimming pool. A separate entrance will also provide school classes and clubs with their own access – independent of the public bathing operation.
A total of around 16 million euros has been earmarked for the new building. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is supporting the project with four million euros from the sports facilities funding program, while the district of Mainz-Bingen is contributing 1.425 million euros. The cities of Ingelheim, Bingen and Gau-Algesheim are jointly contributing 4.9 million euros; the remaining share will be financed through loans.
“With the topping-out ceremony for our extension building, it becomes visible how a forward-looking project is gradually emerging step by step from years of joint, focused planning,” explained association chairman Sebastian Hamann at the opening of the celebration. The implementation is being carried out “with a high sense of responsibility, technical ambition and a clear focus on sustainability.”
A topping-out ceremony is also an occasion to recognize the work of the trades involved: “Our special thanks go to everyone who is working here with great commitment and high professional expertise – the craftswomen and craftsmen, the planners and architects, the project manager as well as the employees of rheinwelle, particularly in the technical department. Without their efforts we would not be here today,” emphasized Ingelheim’s mayor Eveline Breyer. As with the existing pool, the new building is also being planned by KRIEGER Architekten | Ingenieure.
Only in November of last year the existing bathing and leisure world of rheinwelle was reopened after a modernization phase lasting around seven months. Since then, guests have had access, among other offers, to two new slides by Klarer Freizeitanlagen featuring a previously unique element worldwide. More about the new features can be read in EAP issue 1/2026. ■
