“kraterbad” in Nördlingen: Modern Indoor Pool Launches Operations

Die Enthüllung des Schriftzugs „kraterbad“ markierte einen Höhepunkt der Eröffnungsveranstaltung des neuen Nördlinger Hallenbads.

(eap) Yesterday, the new indoor leisure pool kraterbad in Nördlingen (between Stuttgart and Ingolstadt) officially commenced regular operations. After nearly three years of construction and a ceremonial opening on 13 February, the town in Southern Germany now has a modern facility for sports, education, recreation and family leisure. The name of the public pool refers to Nördlingen’s unique geographical location in the Nördlinger Ries, a meteorite crater that is around 15 million years old. During a pre-opening phase, the facility had already welcomed its first guests; since this week, operations have been running on a regular basis. “The Kraterbad is far more than a swimming pool – it is a place of encounter, education, health and joy,” emphasizes Mayor David Wittner.

The sports and leisure pool facility features a 25-metre swimming pool with five lanes, a training pool with a movable floor and massage jets, as well as a compact TrioSlide manufactured by Aquarena. Two separate pools with play equipment are available for families with small children. The sauna area includes two indoor saunas, a steam bath and an outdoor sauna, as well as an ice fountain, plunge pool, experience showers, relaxation rooms and a sauna garden with sun decks. Klafs was responsible for the sauna installations, while the loose furnishings were supplied by Esch Objektkonzepte. A centrally located catering outlet serves the foyer as well as the indoor pool and sauna areas. All publicly accessible areas are located on the ground floor and can be reached barrier-free without stairs or lifts.

Among those responsible for planning the new-build project were Planungsteam Löhle Neubauer Architekten BDA, Prokopetz Architekten + Ingenieure and Lohrer-Hochrein Landschaftsarchitekten und Stadtplaner. Project management was handled by Hitzler Ingenieure. Other companies involved included GMF (operational consultancy), Wassertechnik Wertheim (pool water technology / building automation), Zeller Bäderbau (stainless steel pools), entervo-access (ticketing and access system) and Lynxight (pool monitoring system). ■
