Second Location for “Universal Horror Unleashed” Announced

(eap) Universal Destinations & Experiences, the themed entertainment division of Comcast NBCUniversal, is expanding its new horror concept “Universal Horror Unleashed” with a second location. Following the venue announced for Las Vegas, scheduled to open in August 2025, a second year-round indoor horror entertainment location will be established in Chicago.
The new attraction will be developed on the grounds of the former Tribune Distribution Center on Chicago Avenue, located between the River North and West Town neighborhoods – marking Universal’s first branded experience in the U.S. Midwest. According to Universal, Chicago was selected for its large population and its status as one of the nation’s leading destinations for tourism and entertainment.
“Universal Horror Unleashed delivers on our promise to create highly immersive and terrifying horror experiences that connect with fans year-round,” said Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Destinations & Experiences. “We’re excited to bring this bold concept to life in Chicago, a city known for its vibrant culture. We’re grateful for the city’s support as we convert this dormant site into a unique attraction that showcases our storytelling expertise and ability to deliver mind blowing experiences that shatter guest expectations.”
According to Universal, the concept combines the company’s deep expertise in the horror genre with next-level storytelling. Guests can expect immersive environments, chilling scenes, and creatively themed food and drinks – including signature cocktails and snacks. A dedicated retail space with exclusive merchandise is also part of the plans.
This latest announcement comes amid numerous ongoing developments across the Universal portfolio: In addition to the recent opening of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando (see EAP 4/2025), Universal is preparing to launch its first Horror Unleashed location in Las Vegas on August 14, 2025 (cf. EAP News from 20 Feb 2025), followed by the opening of Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas (scheduled for 2026, cf. EAP News from 24 Feb 2025), and a new theme park and resort in the United Kingdom (targeted for 2031, cf. EAP News from 9 Apr 2025), marking the company’s first resort in Europe. ■
