Skånes Djurpark to Open New “Shaun the Sheep” Attraction
(eap) The animal park Skånes Djurpark in southern Sweden has announced the expansion of its “Shaun the Sheep” themed area, “Fåret Shaun Land”. The new attraction “Skrotflygaren” (Eng.: “The Scrap Flyer”) is scheduled to open there on 2 July. It will be a “Magic Bikes” ride from Italian manufacturer Zamperla, on which passengers pedal themselves and can thereby influence the flying height of their gondola.

Created in collaboration with the British animation studio Aardman, the attraction is centred around the cult sheep “Shaun” and his friends, who, according to the storyline, have “borrowed” parts from the Farmer’s scrap pile – including bicycles, fans, paint and a cement mixer – to build their own flying machine. The result is Skrotflygaren, which can be used by guests from a body height of 90 centimetres.
“This is a highly anticipated expansion of Shaun the Sheep Land that doubles the fun and spreads plenty of high-flying joy this summer. I am also particularly proud that the Flock’s invention highlights recycling as a theme, encouraging us all to reflect and reuse things,” explains Glenn André Eikelund, CEO of Skånes Djurpark.

Guests in wheelchairs can also use the ride. One gondola can be moved upwards using arm power instead of pedalling. “It is fantastic that the attraction is so inclusive and that guests get to use their own muscle power to make it fly – it truly captures the Flock’s ingenuity in a perfect way,” emphasises Ngaio Harding-Hill, Director of Attractions & Live Experiences and Archive at the animation studio Aardman.
Charles De Bruyne, Sales Manager EU at Zamperla, adds: “It is fantastic that we get to be a part of expanding the immensely popular Shaun the Sheep Land with the world’s first interactive Shaun the Sheep ride. The experience truly captures Shaun the Sheep’s energy and is a perfect addition for anyone who wants to fly this summer.” ■
