Tokyo Disneyland: “Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue” to Open in April 2027
(eap) Japanese operating company Oriental Land, which is behind the Tokyo Disney Resort, has announced the opening date and further details of its new attraction “Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue”. From 15 April 2027, visitors to Tokyo Disneyland will be able to immerse themselves in an interactive indoor experience based on the Disney animated film “Wreck-It Ralph”. The attraction will be the first of its kind at a Disney park worldwide.
Together with the film characters “Ralph” and “Vanellope”, guests will embark on an interactive mission to save the colourful candy-themed world of “Sugar Rush” from destruction by so-called “Sugar Bugs”. Equipped with interactive scanners, they will be able to collect points and access both their scores and photos taken during the ride via the Tokyo Disney Resort App afterwards. The new merchandise shop “Pixel Prism” will open alongside the attraction, while the popcorn stand “Popping Station” will already be in operation by then.
The opening of “Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue” will also mark the beginning of the further development of the “Tomorrowland” themed area. Planned additions include the “Space Mountain Earthrise” roller coaster (see EAP News of 13 Aug 2026) and the redesign of “Tomorrowland Plaza”, including a new restaurant.
Ahead of the opening of Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, visitors will be able to explore the candy-themed world through a mobile mini-game from 12 January 2027. The game can be played both inside and outside the park. At selected locations within the park, the real-world surroundings will be incorporated into the mobile game as a backdrop. From mid-February, the first themed decorations and photo spots are expected to appear in Tomorrowland to build anticipation for the new attraction. In March, themed projections will be added to the projection mapping show at “Cinderella Castle”. ■
