(eap) The Dutch Toverland theme park intends to gradually develop into a destination resort over the coming years. After the municipal council of Horst aan de Maas approved an expanded zoning plan in December of last year, a loan application has now been submitted to the Provincial Council.
In the coming years, investments are planned to be made in several major projects both within the park and behind the scenes. In addition to the creation of permanent accommodation offer and new attractions for guests, this also includes the expansion of infrastructure for employees. Specifically planned is, among other things, the realization of a new attraction on the site of the bobkart ride “Maximus’ Blitz Bahn” (Wiegand). According to the park, this will be an attraction of “a different type” that will, however, retain the strengths of the existing attraction. A final closing date for Maximus’ Blitz Bahn is to be announced later.
The entrance area “Port Laguna” is also set to be further enhanced. In the area, which until now has primarily functioned as a promenade and leisure zone with souvenir shops, dining facilities and a game gallery, the integration of a new attraction is planned. This will be a dark ride, which is currently in an early design phase. Behind the scenes, the construction of a new workshop as well as a so-called “Clubhuis” is also planned – a staff complex with offices and break rooms. The workshop is currently under construction.
For the implementation of the projects, a total investment volume of 98 million euros is envisaged, which is composed of own funds and external financing. ■
