(eap) The Dutch theme park Toverland once again hosted the “Troy Coaster Challenge” last weekend – a 24-hour roller coaster marathon on the wooden coaster “Troy”, this year organized in support of the Stichting Jade foundation. A total of 24 participants took part in this edition, riding the popular wooden coaster continuously from Saturday, 24 May to midday on Sunday, 25 May.

Despite adverse weather conditions with hours of rain and strong winds, 15 participants managed to complete the challenge successfully. After 285 rides – equivalent to a distance of 307 kilometers – the event ended at exactly 12:00 noon on Sunday. In addition to the coaster marathon itself, several fundraising activities were held, including auctions of exclusive Toverland experiences and special ride sessions with the participants outside regular park opening hours.

This time, a record amount of 71,896 euros was raised. The Stichting Jade foundation uses these funds to support families with children suffering from cancer, offering them valuable moments of respite at the “Villa Jade” holiday home by the sea. Bart Jaspers, Senior Manager Marketing & Communication at Toverland, commented: “It was the toughest edition yet. Hours of rain and even stormy weather unfortunately meant that nine participants had to drop out. But all of them are true heroes and contributed to this fantastic result for Stichting Jade.”

Following the event, Jaspers handed over a symbolic cheque to René Kops from the foundation, who expressed his deep gratitude: We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part in the Troy Coaster Challenge. The past 24 hours were a real roller coaster ride. With this amount, we can welcome one family per week to Villa Jade for one and a half years. That’s simply amazing!”

The Stichting Jade foundation was established by the family of young Jade Kops, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 14. The foundation aims to provide families affected by cancer with precious time out in a protected and supportive environment. ■
