Rise in Admission Fees for US National Parks

Rising costs parallel to stagnating revenue have led the US Department of the Interior to drastically increase the admission fees to 22 of the most popular national landmarks. In addition, visitor centres are to be closed or only open for short periods. Some of the well-liked park rangers are also to be made redundant. Five years ago, for example, there were 45 rangers at the Yosemite National Park visitors could turn to for information. Today there are merely eight rangers with this job position. And admission to Death Valley has doubled – from ten to twenty dollars. For an entrance ticket to the Yellowstone National Park, visitors will also soon have to shell out 25 dollars instead of 20.
