USA: Q1 2022 Financial Results for Universal Theme Parks Show Recovery – First Details on Attractions in Epic Universe

For the first quarter ended on 31 March of the current fiscal year 2022, Comcast Corporation reported significantly positive results for its Universal Parks & Resorts theme park division compared to the same period last year: Total revenues increased by USD 941 million (approx. EUR 901 million) to USD 1.6 billion (approx. EUR 1.5 billion). Adjusted EBITDA for the theme park business was USD 451 million (approx. EUR 432 million) in Q1 2022, compared to a loss of USD 61 million (approx. EUR 58 million) in the same period in 2021 due to the pandemic. “[...] Our recovery from the pandemic at theme parks has been fantastic and shows no signs of slowing down [...],” commented Brian L. Roberts, Chairman & CEO of Comcast Corp.

The development of the new Epic Universe theme park in Orlando (FL) is also progressing steadily again – in 2020, construction was temporarily halted due to the pandemic, but work was resumed last spring. From a reliable American source, first conclusions can now be drawn about the types of attractions to be expected: A Family Launch Coaster by Intamin Amusement Rides is likely to be among the signature rides of the third Universal theme park in Orlando. The new park destination is scheduled to open in summer 2025. (eap)
