USA: New Theme Park for Alabama

Rollin' Thunder

Today will see the opening of The Park at OWA in Foley, Alabama, a new leisure destination with a total of 21 attractions offering excitement and fun for families (cp. EAP, 1/17). The new park, which is owned and operated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians group, is located around an approx. 1.6 hectare (14 acre) large lake by which the name “Owa” was inspired (meaning “Big Lake” in Muscogee Creek language).

The park’s signature ride is the “Rollin’ Thunder” steel coaster, a Thunderbolt model of Italian supplier Zamperla, who equipped the whole park with rides and attractions of its large-scale portfolio. Beside its entertainment offer, The Park at OWA features a 150-room Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel for overnight guests. Retail and dining options will open in September. The Pennsylvania-based ticketing provider Gateway Ticketing Systems has supplied all software solutions for an integral guest and park management. (eap)
