“Barbie: The Dream Experience” Brings Iconic Doll to Amsterdam
(eap) The leisure venue WONDR Experience in Amsterdam is currently presenting “Barbie: The Dream Experience”, a large-scale special installation dedicated to the world-famous doll. Covering 2,000 square meters, the exhibition features twelve interactive rooms with life-sized recreations of classic Barbie play worlds, complemented by a shop and a Barbie café.
The exhibition takes visitors through more than 60 years of Barbie history: among the settings is a Californian-style beach from the 1970s featuring “Malibu Barbie™”, while a retro salon recalls the “Totally Hair Barbie™” of the 1990s – the best-selling Barbie of all time.
Highlights include large-scale replicas of well-known Barbie vehicles such as the pink convertible from the 1980s, a catamaran, the first mobile home, and a snowmobile. The tour concludes with a large-scale “Barbie DreamHouse™” complete with a slide. This is followed by an exclusive merchandising shop and a Barbie café. Various settings provide opportunities for photo sessions; in addition, an AI photo booth allows visitors to virtually transform themselves into a Barbie.
The project was created in cooperation with Mattel and entrepreneur Sarah Mendes, founder & CEO of WONDR. The design was developed by the Dutch Leisure Expert Group, which was responsible for the architectural design, spatial planning, audiovisual and media content, realizing the twelve areas together with Props and Patricia Bustos Studio. ■
