“Fraud in the Port of Hamburg”: New Digital Speicherstadt Rally

(eap) Following the opening of a new indoor escape game this spring, the Hamburg-based escape game specialists from Opolum have launched a new offer: With the title “Fraud in the Port of Hamburg”, a new digital city rally invites people to discover a world of smugglers and customs officers in the Port of Hamburg. The experience is offered on the tenth anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt (Engl.: “Warehouse District”) and is available through November 30 of this year.
The digital scavenger hunt can be played on a smartphone and is available around the clock. Interested parties book a game slot in advance on the company’s website and then receive access to the tour. During the approximately two-hour rally, participants solve various puzzle and task stations and, in doing so, also explore different areas of the Speicherstadt and the Landungsbrücken.
The Opolum escape game attraction is located in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt and counts among the leading tourist attractions of the district alongside attractions such as Miniatur Wunderland and Hamburg Dungeon – the team behind it aims to contribute to the anniversary celebrations with their new digital offer: “The history of this unique and historic port complex is very close to our hearts. For this reason, we want to contribute to the celebrations of this important year. We have therefore developed an experience that can be played very easily on a smartphone,” explains Opolum founder Christoph Laubis. “Our goal is to encourage visitors to engage with the Speicherstadt as well as its architecture and history in a completely different way. With the digital scavenger hunt, we want to inspire discovery and exploration – people should enjoy the World Heritage Site consciously and with open eyes.”
In addition to “Fraud in the Port of Hamburg”, Opolum is also taking part in the “Long Night of the World Heritage” event, which the HHLA – owner and landlord of the Speicherstadt areas – is organizing as the highlight of the celebrations on September 20. At this special event, participants encounter live actors who patrol the streets, provide important clues for the puzzles, and invite interactions. “Escape games with live acting are our specialty at Opolum. For the celebrations, we are therefore offering, in addition to our digital scavenger hunt, a one-time special event in which the group can experience an exclusive adventure. At this event, tricky puzzles and spectacular tasks are at the center,” says Laubis. ■
