(eap) The realization of London’s first major surf park is moving closer: The project, which was further developed over the summer and rebranded from “The Wave London” to “Surf London”, recently received planning approval from the London Borough of Enfield. Following the upcoming review by the Greater London Authority (GLA), final agreements could be reached later this year – with construction potentially starting in 2026.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the London Borough of Enfield for their support. We recognise that this is not final approval, and we’ll continue to work closely with the authorities to complete the application. This is a big milestone for Surf London, and we’re really excited to continue to progress the detailed planning so we are in a position to start construction next year,” said Hazel Geary, CEO of Crest Experiences (formerly The Wave Group Ltd), which is developing the project.

The planned facility in Lee Valley Regional Park, North London, is expected to cover around 104-acre (42-hectares). At its heart will be an “ES48 Endless Surf” lagoon, complemented by a diverse mix of wellness, sports, and lifestyle experiences, as well as restaurants, cafés, event spaces, and accommodation options. Upon completion, the development is expected to create more than 200 jobs. “Surf London represents what Endless Surf was designed for – powerful, flexible waves that thrive in an urban environment,” emphasized Paul Chutter, President of Endless Surf. “This project embodies the future of inland surfing: accessible, community-driven, and deeply connected to the culture of its city.”

Following O₂ SURFTOWN MUC in Munich, Surf London would be the second Endless Surf facility in Europe. Read more about the world’s first Endless Surf installation in Germany in EAP 4/2024. ■
