(eap) The city of Hückeswagen (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) near Cologne is going to receive a new indoor swimming pool. The planned facility is intended to meet modern technical and energy standards and offer both sports-oriented and family-friendly leisure opportunities.

The plans include, among other things, a 25-metre swimming pool with four lanes, a course pool with a flexible movable floor, a toddler area and a textile steam bath. Berlin-based convis GmbH has been commissioned with project management. As general contractor, Pellikaan is responsible for the construction of the new pool and, together with the architects of geising+böker and other partners, will handle the planning and construction work.

The existing indoor swimming pool, which is now in need of refurbishment and is to make way for the new public pool, was also originally realised by Pellikaan. After 54 years, the new building is intended to mark the beginning of a new chapter for the city of Hückeswagen. In total, the town is planning an investment of around 28 million euros. The demolition of the existing pool is scheduled to begin in early 2027. The opening of the new facility is planned for the second half of the following year. ■
