Cologne’s Agrippabad Set to Fully Reopen for School Holidays Start

(eap) The Agrippabad in Cologne city centre is set to fully reopen to the public at the start of the summer school holidays on 17 July 2026. This was announced yesterday by the operator, KölnBäder. Following the completion of the necessary construction work, including on the roof and sloping façade, the swimming pool, sauna and fitness area will be available to guests soon again.
The reopening had originally been scheduled for 1 July. However, delays occurred during the course of the construction work. According to the operator, this was partly due to the strained situation regarding specialised companies for swimming pool construction and technical work. In some cases, promised services could not be carried out as planned, which caused individual stages of the work to be postponed.
“Of course, we would have liked to reopen the Agrippabad on 1 July as announced. We very much regret that the works will now take a few days longer,” explains Claudia Heckmann, Managing Director of KölnBäder. “At the same time, we are pleased that we will now be able to make the pool available to the people of Cologne again this summer.”
The swimming pool, which caters for sports swimmers, families and wellness enthusiasts, has been closed since 1 January this year. During the initial planning for the demolition of the sloping façade and the modernisation of the sauna and fitness areas, it became apparent that the structural renovation work required was more extensive than initially anticipated. Whilst the necessary measures for the resumption of operations on 17 July are nearing completion, planning for the subsequent modernisation work is continuing.
KölnBäder now intends to continue operating the Agrippabad until the upcoming modernisation. What the long-term future of the site will look like in concrete terms, and how a comprehensive refurbishment will be implemented, is the subject of further discussions with the shareholders. A final decision has not yet been made. With the interim reopening, KölnBäder is enabling schools and clubs in particular to return to this centrally located Cologne pool. ■
