(eap) Dutch theme park Efteling has announced a new major attraction for 2029: “Missie Luminar” is set to become the park’s first Suspended Launch Coaster. The coaster will be supplied by the likewise Dutch manufacturer Vekoma. On the announced ride type, the vehicles are suspended below the track and accelerated by a launch system.

According to the storyline, the fast-paced adventure begins with a spectacular launch from a scientific institute. From there, guests set off on an expedition into the unknown – with the aim of breaking through the light barrier. The ride, lasting more than two minutes, is planned to feature high speeds, surprising track elements and several moments of weightlessness. The themed surroundings will also transport visitors into a world of fascinating natural phenomena, scientific experiments and 19th-century voyages of discovery. Missie Luminar will be built in close proximity to Efteling’s main entrance and will complement the “Island of the Five Senses” themed area. This currently comprises the “House of the Five Senses”, the “Efteling Grand Hotel”, the “Efteling Theater” and the “Aquanura” water show.

With the new roller coaster, Efteling also aims to expand its thrill ride offering: “Missie Luminar will be a fantastic addition to our thrill ride portfolio. A roller coaster of this kind does not yet exist at Efteling. It will reach a top speed of up to 80 km/h and will probably feel even faster to our guests,” explains Fons Jurgens, CEO of Efteling. “This will create excitement from the very first moment to the last, and its location will also make Missie Luminar a unique and extraordinary attraction. The vehicles rushing past will already give guests at the park entrance a sense of what awaits them. Although the opening is still some time away, we are already looking forward to the first reactions from our visitors.”

Most recently, Efteling opened the free-fall tower trio “Hooghmoed” – read more about the new family attraction near the “Baron 1898” dive coaster in the current EAP issue 4/2026. In addition, another new ride, “Ravenring”, is scheduled to open this winter. ■
