Germany’s Maya mare to Open New Water Slides
(eap) The time has come: following a three-month refurbishment period, Maya mare near Halle (Saxony-Anhalt) in Germany is set to officially reopen tomorrow. With considerable commitment and a willingness to embrace change, those responsible at Stadtwerke Halle reportedly used the past months to set the course for the future of the Mexican-themed water park. “These were months full of sweat, dedication and genuine teamwork,” said Melanie Heinrichs, commercial operations manager of Maya mare. “But every drop was worth it – our Maya mare is now more modern, more sustainable and more exciting than ever.”
Even though certain areas of the facility may still be subject to temporary restrictions, guests will be able to explore the new slide complex from tomorrow, which formed the main focus of the refurbishment and modernisation measures. The new slide world has been thematically inspired by the fascinating mythology of the Maya culture. The main slide, “Kukulkan”, named after the feathered serpent deity, now features dynamic light and sound effects, atmospheric image projections and an immersive concept intended to transport guests into another world. “We wanted to create something that goes beyond the ordinary,” Heinrichs explained. “Kukulkan is not just a slide – it is an experience. And we are proud to be able to offer something so unique in the region.”
The slides supplied by Jettingen, Germany-based Aquarena were all fully insulated in order to significantly reduce the energy demand and make operations more sustainable. In addition to the new slide attractions, the entire facility was converted to modern LED technology. The ventilation systems were also renewed and supported by funding from the Climate and Transformation Fund. “For us, sustainability is not a trend, but a central part of our responsibility,” Heinrichs said. Furthermore, the whirlpools were also refurbished.
Further details on the new features at Maya mare will be presented in one of the upcoming magazine issues. ■
