New Children’s Area for Regensburg’s Westbad

New Children’s Area for Regensburg’s Westbad

Alexander Süß, Swimming Pool Operations Manager at das Stadtwerk.Regensburg; Lord Mayor Dr Thomas Burger; Manfred Koller, Managing Director of das Stadtwerk.Regensburg; and Eugenia Gelmert, Deputy Commercial Head of Property Management at das Stadtwerk.Regensburg, are looking forward to the new children’s and family area at the Westbad.

(eap) The children’s area at das Stadtwerk.Westbad in Regensburg (Bavaria, Germany) has existed in its current form since 1987. After almost 40 years, it is now due for a comprehensive modernisation: Starting in September, the ageing area will be refurbished and transformed into a modern, child-friendly environment.

With the comprehensive redesign of the children’s area, we are strengthening our offering for families and creating a modern space that combines play, fun and relaxation. In doing so, we are investing both in the future of our swimming pool and in the quality of life of the people in our city,” said Dr Thomas Burger, Mayor of Regensburg and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of das Stadtwerk.Regensburg.

As part of the project, the children’s area will be significantly enlarged. The existing area, covering just under 200 square metres and including a 45-square-metre pool, will be expanded by a 132-square-metre extension. A large part of the additional space will be designed as a Splash area featuring numerous water play elements and will be aimed particularly at children up to around eight years of age. At its heart will be a play structure with three walk-through playhouses, a tipping bucket, a water wheel, water jets and other interactive elements. It will be complemented by an approximately five-metre-long children’s slide with its own landing pool, as well as various floor jets and spray features. A separate area for the youngest visitors will be created around the existing children’s pool. This will be enhanced with additional water play features, a water cascade and a wider, shallow slide.

Our aim is to provide attractive and modern facilities for all target groups at our pools. By investing in the new children’s area, we are creating significant added value for families and making Westbad even more attractive,” explained Manfred Koller, Managing Director of das Stadtwerk.Regensburg. Only recently, a new waterslide complex supplied by Aquarena was put into operation at Westbad, already creating a fresh appeal for families and waterslide enthusiasts.

The new children’s area is scheduled to open at the end of 2027. ■
