New Extension Strengthens Deichwelle’s Experience Offering

With the “Adventure Island”, Deichwelle Neuwied is expanding its range of activities for families with young children.

(eap) The Deichwelle leisure pool in Neuwied, Germany, has expanded both its capacities for swimming and activity courses and its offering for families with small children. In a new extension covering more than 670 square metres, guests have recently been able to find the children’s area “Abenteuerinsel” (Adventure Island) as well as a 100-square-metre teaching pool with a movable floor. On the upper floor, the new relaxation zone “Liegebucht” (Resting Bay) has also been created.

The adventure island, realised by Aquarena, includes, among other things, a play ship, water cannons, a tipping bucket, climbing elements as well as an open and an enclosed slide. While these play elements are aimed primarily at children aged between two and eight, an additional splash area for children under two has been created directly adjacent to it. The new children’s area was designed as an island and jungle world, into which the Deichwelle mascots – “turtle Martha”, “parrot Pico” and “crab Ricki” – have also been integrated.

Separated from the children’s area by large glass doors is the new teaching pool. Thanks to the movable floor, the water depth can be varied in 30-centimetre increments between 0 and 150 centimetres. This makes the pool suitable both for water familiarisation, swimming and aqua fitness courses. When no school or course programme is taking place, the pool is open for families. The stainless steel pool comes from hsb, while the movable floor was supplied by KBE-Bauelemente.

The new extension is part of extensive investment measures amounting to a total of around ten million euros. These also include the new “Dschungelrutsche” (Jungle Slide) from Klarer Freizeitanlagen, which was already put into operation last year (see EAP 2/2025), as well as the new experience sauna, which has been available since February of this year. It combines coloured lighting effects, powerful soundscapes and a screen for atmospheric video sequences. Up to 80 guests at a time can enjoy experience infusions in the sauna by Müther Saunabau & Wellnessanlagen.

Further project partners include the architectural firm Wolfgang und Claudia Geil, the engineering office Oliver Martin as well as Massar Koblenz for water treatment and Art-Efx for wall design. ■
