New Skywalk Attraction on the Baltic Sea Island of Rügen

(eap) On the Baltic Sea island of Rügen, which is very popular with vacationers, a new attraction was recently opened to visitors. Directly on the famous chalk cliff in the Jasmund National Park, which attracts a large number of tourists every year, the new “Skywalk”, a floating viewing platform, was built after a construction period of almost two years. According to its own information, this floating construction is unique in Europe. The design of the walkway, which is in the form of a circular path, was created by the engineering firm of schlaich bergermann partner (sbp). The new visitor platform, which had already been in the planning stage since 2011 and provides a safe passage from the Königsstuhl National Park Center to the Königsstuhl for all visitors, is the first barrier-free experience of the view of the surrounding chalk cliffs and the Baltic Sea for all guests. The historic viewing platform directly on the Königsstuhl chalk cliff was closed in the fall of 2022 and has since been an unspoiled natural space again.

The exhibition in the National Park Center was also reopened after modernization and renovation measures. It can now also be experienced in easy language and in sign language. In the four exhibition rooms, which have also been redesigned in terms of content, visitors can learn all about the topics of the dynamics of the chalk coast, species conservation and biodiversity, as well as the uniqueness of the German and international national parks. From summer on, new experience stations and a national park course in the outdoor area will additionally complement the offer here. ■
