New Waldbad Warburg Public Pool Continues to Take Shape

(eap) Yesterday, the Hanseatic City of Warburg (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) reached another milestone in the construction of its new public pool facility with the topping-out ceremony for the Neue Waldbad (“New Forest Pool”) . “With the new Waldbad, Warburg is realising the largest investment in its city’s history – a project of exceptional scale. It makes us all the more pleased that construction work on the new Waldbad is progressing according to plan,” mayor Tobias Scherf said, expressing his satisfaction with the current status. “Together with all those involved, we want to continue implementing the project swiftly so that the opening can take place as scheduled in the coming summer of 2027,” the mayor added.

Work on the construction site has been ongoing at high intensity for around 15 months. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in November 2024. As early as mid-January 2025, the company Hartmann Bau began excavation and structural work. Zeller Bäderbau commenced work on the course and sports pools in the indoor pool. The substructure for the new stainless-steel pool of the outdoor swimming area is currently under construction. The plans for the new Waldbad were developed by KRIEGER Architekten | Ingenieure from Velbert. CONSTRATA Ingenieur-Gesellschaft is responsible for project management.

Leander Sasse, Managing Director of the municipal utilities, emphasizes that the new Waldbad is being realized consistently with a focus on sustainability and climate friendliness. The targeted use of renewable energies, durable materials and modern technology contributes to conserving resources and supporting national and European climate protection goals. Project manager Albrecht Schaeffer adds that the indoor pool will be built to efficiency building level 40. This means that energy demand is supposed to be around 60 per cent lower than that of a reference building.

With a total investment volume of around 27.6 million euros, the new Waldbad is the largest investment project in the city’s history. A large proportion of the costs – 16 million euros – is covered by grants, which represent a record level of funding for the City of Warburg. “With the topping-out ceremony of our new Waldbad, it becomes clear how years of joint, targeted planning are gradually turning the new pool facility into reality. A special area is being created for our city. For the municipal utilities, the new Waldbad is an extraordinary project that we are implementing with a high level of responsibility, technical ambition and a clear focus on sustainability,” Sasse concludes. ■
