New in Berlin: First Hologram Illusion in a Dungeon Attraction

(eap) The Berlin Dungeon has expanded its Halloween production this year with a technological innovation: for the first time ever, a hologram illusion is being used in a Dungeon attraction. In “The Case of Marie N.”, the Dungeon in the heart of the German capital employs modern projection technology to bring a historical true-crime case from the 1920s to life in a new and captivating way.

With the help of a specially adapted Pepper’s Ghost effect, the young Marie Nitsche – the last victim of serial killer Carl Großmann – appears on stage as a hologram in the new show. The character reappears after her staged death and speaks directly to the audience – an immersive and emotional expansion of the show concept that aims to place the victims’ perspective at the center.

“Far too often, victims fall silent in the reporting behind the perpetrators and the crime – yesterday as today. At the Berlin Dungeon, we reverse the perspective: through hologram technology, we let Carl Großmann’s last victim speak for herself. Marie Nitsche thus guides the audience through a harrowing reconstruction of the events. Our new show confronts our guests with a real Berlin case and deliberately gives the victim both shape and voice,” explains Berlin Dungeon General Manager Bora Bilgiç.

The new production, which will be a permanent part of the Berlin Dungeon tour in future, combines hologram technology with light and sound design, shadow play, and live acting to create an immersive experience. With this, the attraction expands its scenic storytelling by adding another technological dimension that visualizes historical events in a particularly impressive way. ■
