(eap) On May 14, Darmstadt’s (Germany) new combination pool was opened in time for the start of the open-air pool season. The complex combines the newly built Nordbad (an indoor pool), which opened in 2021, with the DSW open-air pool, which was also extensively modernised and the outdoor areas of which have now been fully completed. The total volume of the project is 47 million euros, to which the state of Hesse contributed subsidies of one million euros. While the pools of the DSW outdoor pool remain in the property of the Darmstädter Schwimm- und Wassersportverein 1912, the outdoor area becomes property of the city.

“In this way, we have found a very good solution to operate the outdoor pools economically and ecologically, to give the swimming sports clubs a clear perspective for the future and, in addition, to offer swimming enthusiasts an attractive pool,” explained Mayor and Sports Director Barbara Akdeniz. “Guests can look forward to a newly upgraded beach volleyball court, a new water playground and an improved gastronomic offer in the outdoor area. In addition, the children’s pool has been equipped with a new sun awning – very important for the little ones.”

The following firms were responsible for the modernized outdoor pool area: Architecture: Sacker Architekten, outdoor facilities: Henne Korn Landschaftsarchitekten PartGmbB, pool water technology/HLS: Ingenieurgesellschaft Bannert mbH, construction management: Hochbau K+K Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH. ■
