Oskarshausen Opens New Child-Friendly Haunted Maze

(eap) Oskarshausen, located in Saxony, Germany, is expanding its range of attractions with a new free-to-enter spooky experience: Today sees the opening of the approximately 250-square-metre haunted maze titled “Labyrinth der ewigen Fiesta” (“Labyrinth of the Eternal Fiesta”).

According to the park, planning for the new maze began as early as winter. This past June, the previous, much smaller and more simply designed maze was dismantled to make room for the elaborate redesign. Within just five weeks, a new themed experience was created, inspired by the Mexican “Día de los Muertos” tradition. Colorful festive elements meet spooky gloomy scenes, floral splendor alternates with eerie dead ends.

“After around five weeks of construction, young and old scare fans can finally dash through our popular maze again,” explains Bianka Lohse, the project’s lead decorator and creative originator. The story behind the experience revolves around a wedding party that has been cursed – due to the bride’s greed – to celebrate an eternal fiesta. “The theme allowed us to combine the vibrant colours and flowers of the festival with truly spooky scenes. There’s something for everyone – and plenty of photo opportunities too!” Lohse adds.

The approximately 120-metre-long path takes visitors through a densely themed setting with numerous stations, including the “Swamp of the Seven Deadly Sins,” undead wedding guests, a cursed groom and several dead ends designed to disorient guests. ■
