Record-Breaking Dive Coaster Opens at Six Flags Over Texas
(eap) Yesterday marked the opening of “Tormenta: Rampaging Run” at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. The new dive coaster from Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), which opened in time for the 65th anniversary of the world’s first Six Flags park, sets no fewer than six world records. Not only is it the world’s first giga dive coaster – meaning a coaster between 300 and 399 feet (91 and 122 meters) tall – but it is also the tallest, fastest and longest ride of its kind.

The coaster train is first lifted to a height of 309 feet (94 meters) before stopping at the edge of the 285-foot (approx. 87-meter) first drop, holding riders at the brink for three seconds as they look almost vertically downwards. This is followed by a ride featuring numerous turns and inversions, during which the coaster reaches a top speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). Over the course of its more than 4,199-foot (around 1,200-meter) track, the ride features the world’s tallest vertical loop at 179 feet (approx. 55 meters), the tallest Immelmann at 218 feet (66 meters) and the highest beyond-vertical drop at 285 feet (87 meters).
“Tormenta: Rampaging Run forever changes not only the Arlington skyline, but the full lineup of thrills only offered at Six Flags Over Texas,” said Pete Carmichael, park president of Six Flags Over Texas. “With the addition of this record-breaking dive coaster, Six Flags Over Texas is a must-visit destination for thrill lovers from all over the world, and we can’t wait for our guests to take their first rampaging run!”

The new record-breaking coaster is located in the park’s Spain-themed area. Here, a new fictional village named “Rancho de la Tormenta” has been created, where guests are invited to take part in an annual festival. According to the storyline, the celebration honors the ranch workers who raised the cattle that brought prosperity to the community. The so-called “Festival Taurino” is staged with colorful flags and a varied entertainment program. At the heart of the festival is Tormenta: Rampaging Run. ■
