Reopening of “Test Track” at Disney’s EPCOT
(eap) The “Test Track” attraction at the EPCOT park of Walt Disney World in Florida is now once again open to visitors – in a revised design and once again under its original name “Test Track presented by General Motors.”
The attraction – a Slot Car Ride – was opened in 1999 as the first of its kind worldwide. It was developed in collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, General Motors, and the Canadian company Dynamic Attractions. Back in 2012, the attraction underwent a major redesign and was reopened under the name “Test Track presented by Chevrolet” following a sponsorship change. With the current modernization, not only does the original “General Motors” name return, but a new entrance and queue area, new scenes, visual effects, and an updated sound design have also been integrated.
In terms of content, the attraction remains true to its thematic concept: The focus continues to be on current and future technologies in automotive development. One of the new scenes, for instance, shows how vehicles can “see” their surroundings while driving using advanced cameras and sensors. After the ride, visitors walk through a showroom featuring the latest products from the sponsor General Motors. ■
