(eap) After three years of construction, the new combined indoor and outdoor swimming facility was recently opened in the Hanseatic city of Kamen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. “With the Sesekebad, we have not only contributed to the infrastructure, but we are also creating a place for sport, leisure and community. We have planned many activities this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of GSW. But the biggest gift to the city of Kamen and its citizens is this pool,” said Jochen Baudrexl, Managing Director of the operators, Gemeinschaftsstadtwerke (GSW). The Sesekebad is a “pool for generations”, as Mayor Elke Kappen described it. While children play on the “Kömsche Kahn”, a themed play structure from Aquarena inspired by local heritage, or in the adjacent toddler pool, parents can supervise their children from the neighbouring warm water seating pool.

The multifunctional pool with a fully adjustable floor, massage jets and neck showers offers a water area for sports and swimming courses or a relaxation pool. School, club and competition swimmers can use the sports pool with partial-lift floor and 1- and 3-meter diving platforms as well as six 25-meter lanes. Floor-to-ceiling windows can be opened in warm weather, creating a connection between the indoor and outdoor areas. In the outdoor pool, visitors find a 50-meter sports pool with eight lanes as well as an adventure pool with a current channel, bubble loungers and a wide slide. There is also a toddler pool with adjoining spray park for the little ones. The new facility also includes a food and beverage area, which can be accessed from both the outdoor and indoor pools. The company geising + böker was responsible for the architectural design, while entervo access provided the access control system.
With the new Sesekebad, the population of Kamen now has a modern combined swimming pool at its disposal that offers both sports and leisure activities. The opening of the neighbouring Häupenbad in Bergkamen, which is also operated by Gemeinschaftsstadtwerke, will further strengthen the region’s swimming pool infrastructure from August 22nd this summer. ■
