Spain: PortAventura World Opens “LaLiga Twenty Nine's“ Restaurant & Launches “The Beat Challenge“ Video Game

In September 2020, Spanish theme park resort PortAventura World, the national football league LaLiga and Kosmos announced their joint venture which aims at creating a comprehensive football entertainment offering at PortAventura (see EAP news of 15 Sep 2020). The first phase of the development plan, in which almost ten million euros were invested, was completed yesterday with the opening of the restaurant “LaLiga TwentyNine’s“ and the premiere of the AR game experience “The Beat Challenge“. The new gastronomic offer provides space for up to 400 guests on an area of 1,000 square metres and, in addition to catering, also features an eSports area in which “The Beat Challenge“ has been integrated. Visitors can download this new gaming offer as an app before their visit to the park and create their own avatar. With the help of the app, various experiences can then be unlocked in the park. Thanks to the use of AR technology, the real and digital worlds get connected, creating an immersive experience.

David García, Managing Director of PortAventura World, comments: “The opening of the restaurant, the only one of its kind in the world, and the development of this video game will allow us to connect with new audiences and, thanks to digitalisation and new technologies,  beyond our physical borders […].”

Javier Tebas, LaLiga President, adds: “With TwentyNine‘s, LaLiga becomes a pioneer, creating the world‘s first LaLiga-themed restaurant […]. In addition, with ‘The Beat Challenge’, LaLiga is making progress in its quest to reach a different audience, committing to new technologies and innovation […].”

Professional FC Barcelona soccer player Gerard Piqué, CEO of Kosmos, explains: “[…] TwentyNine‘s and ‘The Beat Challenge’ share the same goal and do so by intertwining the physical experience with the virtual. It is important for us to be part of this project together with LaLiga and PortAventura World, which are two strategic partners for Kosmos.” (eap)
