Start for Germany’s New “Hirschbachbad” Combination Pool

(eap) After around four and a half years of construction, the new Hirschbachbad combination pool in Aalen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) was put into operation last weekend. The swimming pool facility is intended to meet both sporting and family-oriented needs and offers a total of around 2,800 square meters of water surface. This includes a 25-metre sports pool with ten lanes, a diving pool with 1-, 3- and 5-metre platforms, a training pool with a movable floor, an adventure pool with a current channel, massage jets and a twelve-meter open slide, as well as a children’s pool with play features such as two water cannons and an elephant slide.

The offer also includes a 60-meter tube slide from manufacturer Aquarena, which can be accessed from both the indoor and outdoor pool areas and features LED light effects. For sauna guests, a Finnish sauna, a panorama sauna, a steam bath, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and a cold-water pool in the outdoor area are available. A bistro and a kiosk provide food and refreshments.

The design for the barrier-free, light-flooded building was created by Stuttgart-based architects 4a Architekten, while the pool concept was developed by Kannewischer Management. In addition, the project involved, among others, Hitzler Ingenieure (project management), AO Landschaftsarchitekten (outdoor facilities planning), G. Diedrichs (swimming pool equipment), Wassertechnik Wertheim (water treatment) and entervo access (ticketing system).

The outdoor area is scheduled to open for the 2026 outdoor pool season. Planned features include a 50-metre swimming pool, a non-swimmer adventure pool with water mushroom and slide, a toddlers’ pool with play elements, a water and children’s playground as well as a spacious sunbathing lawn. With an investment volume of 65.7 million euros, it is, according to the city of Aalen, the largest municipal construction project in its history. ■
