(eap) The Thermal Tourism Congress 2025, which brings together international experts from the fields of wellness, health tourism, and thermal culture, kicks off today in Budapest. The multi-day event is taking place at the Thermal Margaret Island hotel.

The first day of the event focuses on networking: In addition to a B2B meeting for thermal destinations and the “Mayor’s Summit”, which brings together mayors from all over the world, a welcome reception will be held in the evening. The conference program starts tomorrow, Thursday, with an official opening by Riccardo Mortandello, President of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA), Ildikó Szüts, CEO of Budapest Spas, and Ion Vilcu, Director of the Affiliate Members and Public-Private Collaboration Department at UN Tourism.

A total of twelve expert sessions are on the agenda. Current topics such as sustainability, cultural heritage, innovation, and wellness in connection with thermal destinations will be discussed. The speakers include Claudia Wagner, Managing Director of Frankfurt tour operator FITReisen, who will join three fellow panelists to discuss “The Thermal Tourism Market – Global Perspectives” together with three other discussion partners. As part of the “Future Forum” on Friday, Marion Schneider, Managing Director of the Toskanaworld group, which operates thermal spas in Germany, will give a session entitled “Thermal Heritage in Tourism: New Interpretation of Thermalism”. She will explore how historical thermal traditions can be combined with modern, sustainable, and digital forms of offerings.

The congress will be wrapped up on Friday afternoon with a closing session. ■
