Tilt Coaster “Siren’s Curse” Opens at Cedar Point
(eap) This past weekend, US amusement park Cedar Point inaugurated its 19th roller coaster: “Siren’s Curse”, a “Tilt” Coaster model developed by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma. Spanning over 900 meters (2,966 feet), the ride features 13 airtime moments, two 360-degree “barrel rolls”, and a “triple down” element, reaching speeds of up to 93 km/h (58 mph).
The ride begins with the coaster train being lifted to a height of approximately 49 meters (160 feet). At the summit, the defining tilt element comes into play: a section of track – with the train on it – slowly tips forward 90 degrees into a vertical position, leaving riders facing straight down. Once the track is aligned with the rest of the course, the train is released into the remainder of the ride.
The two trains, each seating 24 passengers, are equipped with LED lighting and an onboard audio system, designed to enhance the immersive theming centered around mythical sirens and to intensify the ride experience. Rider height requirements range from 1.20 meters (48 inches) to 2.00 meters (80 inches).
With the coaster originally intended for Six Flags Mexico, Cedar Point in Ohio, which describes itself as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World”, is once again underlining its pioneering role in the field of innovative roller coaster technology. Additional Tilt Coaster installations are planned for upcoming amusement park developments, including Cotaland (USA) and Six Flags Qiddiya City (Saudi Arabia). ■
