USA: New SimEx-Iwerks 4-D Theatre Opened on Queen Mary

Last week, a SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment 121-seat 4-D theatre was opened on the famous historic cruise liner “Queen Mary”. The new attraction replaces the former theatre located in the aft section of the ship. Designed by SimEx-Iwerks in close collaboration with Queen Mary historians, the 4-D theatre complements the cruise liner’s look and atmosphere. “Our theatre designs are becoming more and more architecturally complementary to our partner locations. We strive for seamless integration into the overall guest experience with operational efficiency. The Queen Mary 4-D Theatre is a great example of what we can do as a company,” says Sal Agosta, SimEx-Iwerks’ Vice President, Architecture and Design.

The new attraction offers a high-definition 3-D viewing experience with 7.1 digital audio surround sound and 4-D effects such as bubbles, wind and scents. Furthermore, it is the first SimEx-Iwerks theatre to include a new faux fire effect. The company has also created a custom pre-show experience with content featuring scenes from the Hollywood films shot on and around the Queen Mary. As of January 11, 2016 visitors can experience two new 4-D adventures in the theatre: “Planet Earth: Shallow Seas 4-D Experience®” and “SpongeBob Square Pants 4-D: The Great Jelly Rescue”.

The Queen Mary served as a cruise liner between 1936 and 1967. Located in the Port of Long Beach, California the ship today is a museum, hotel and convention center. The Queen Mary offers its visitors several restaurants, historical attractions, special event salons and 346 staterooms. (eap)
