In 1995, the company launched the Splashpad® – a brand name referring to a modular water play concept featuring a variety of elements such as interactive sprayers and fountains, complemented by optional theming. Since then, more than 12,000 installations have been realized in over 50 countries. Today, nearly 250 employees work for Vortex – in Montreal as well as in regional offices in the United States, Spain, and, since last year, also in the Netherlands (c.f. EAP news of 16 July 2024: Vortex acquires Watergames & More).

It’s a tribute to the power of innovation, purpose, and people. What started as a way to bring joy to underused parks with our Splashpad® has grown into a global movement, transforming how communities connect, play, and thrive in public spaces. As we look to the future, we will continue to create inclusive water experiences that spark wonder, foster connection, and enrich public life for generations to come,” said company founder and CEO Stephen Hamelin.

Most recently, a new production facility was inaugurated in Plattsburgh, New York State, which is scheduled to commence operations next year. “For the first 25 years, our focus was solely on exporting from Canada. Today, we’re evolving into a true multinational by establishing local footprints in strategic regions like Europe and the United States,” Hamelin added.

Looking ahead, the company plans to deepen its presence in Europe and to explore strategic expansion into markets such as the Middle East. ■
