(eap) The creators of Boomtown Fair festival in Hampshire and Wake The Tiger’s Amazement Park® “Dream Factory” in Bristol have recently revealed details of their new, 80,000 square-feet (approx. 7,400-square-metre) venue in London. According to Wake The Tiger, “Absurd City”, billed as Europe’s largest immersive art experience, is to open at the Westfield London shopping centre on 15th October this year. Designed as an interactive walkthrough experience, it will allow visitors of all ages to discover surreal worlds that combine art and storytelling in a distinctive way.
British abstract expressionist artist and designer Holly Mingo is among the many creatives bringing Absurd City to life.
Inspired by the idea of a metropolis operating on entirely different rules, Absurd City will invite visitors – called “Daytrippers” – to pass through a portal into a sprawling, vivid cityscape. While many details remain closely guarded, the creators have already revealed that guests will be able to explore four distinct districts there. Located beneath a protective dome, these districts are filled with unfolding stories, unexpected discoveries, secret passageways and tactile installations.
“We believe culture and storytelling have the unique power to reshape how we see our future,” explains Graham MacVoy, CEO and Co-Founder at Wake The Tiger. “Absurd City is an invitation to rediscover hope and community through a creative lens. We are here to challenge convention, spark curiosity and prove that a different kind of world is possible and worth building together.”
Wake The Tiger has shared first glimpses of its new immersive attraction.
“There is no blueprint for Absurd City,” adds Luke Mitchell, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder. “It’s been a beautifully chaotic process driven by some of the UK’s finest underground artists, robotic experts and makers. We’ve built a cosmic, eccentric and deeply human playground that we can’t wait for London to explore.”
Jacinta Rowsell, former Managing Director, Customer & Retail Operations, Northern Europe at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, commented: “Absurd City is exactly the kind of bold, culture-defining experience we want people to discover at Westfield London. From the moment Wake The Tiger shared their vision with us, we knew this was going to be something special – an immersive world that blurs the boundaries between art, storytelling and live experience on an extraordinary scale. We’re incredibly excited that Westfield London will become the home of Absurd City.” ■
