Walibi Belgium Unveils Investment Plans Through to 2030

(eap) With a new hybrid roller coaster and the future “Festival World” themed area, Walibi Belgium is setting the course for its next major development phase through to 2030. The Belgian amusement park presented the corresponding plans this morning. At the heart of the project is the wooden roller coaster “Loup-Garou”, which opened in 2001. It will complete its final laps in its current form during the ongoing season before the park has it transformed into a hybrid roller coaster from January 2027. The reopening of the attraction is scheduled for 2028 in the future Festival World themed area.

The 49-meter-tall roller coaster will feature a 47-meter-long drop with an 89-degree incline. // Rendering: Courtesy of Walibi Belgium / Compagnie des Alpes For the project, Walibi Belgium, which belongs to the French Compagnie des Alpes (CDA), is working together with the US manufacturer Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC). Following the transformation, the future hybrid coaster is expected to rise 49 metres into the air, reach speeds of up to 106 km/h and extend over a length of 1,231 metres. According to the park, this will set a record in the Benelux region. The layout is also intended to set new standards: planned features include a 47-metre drop with an 89-degree inclination as well as three elements said to be unique worldwide.

The new roller coaster will form the first stage of Festival World. The future themed area is set to reflect the typical atmosphere of New Orleans and is planned to continue growing in a second development phase through to 2030. Further additions include the retheming of several existing attractions, new food & beverage offers, a new themed restaurant, family drop towers and a water play area.

Since 2016, CDA has been continuously investing in the expansion of the leisure and water park. Following the opening of “Dock World” with its family roller coaster "Mecalodon" in the anniversary year 2025 (see EAP 4/2025), Festival World marks the park’s next major expansion step. ■
