WoodCutter Hamburg: Leisure Like in the Viking Age

WoodCutter Hamburg: Leisure Like in the Viking Age

(eap) Just in time for the start of the weekend, this past Friday saw the opening of the first axe-throwing bar in Hamburg, Germany. The Belgian company WoodCutter, founded by Julien Vandenitte and Romain Félix, launched its third location in Germany after first openings in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. “Axe throwing is something very original – our ancestors did it all the time, so it’s in our blood. But in a world of digitalization and urbanization, we have forgotten these old, natural activities – until now,” says Martin Dencker, Managing Director for Germany, explaining the trend. Dencker is leading WoodCutter’s expansion in Germany together with leisure entrepreneur Aron Lack.

On a site of some 700 square meters, a mixture of entertainment center with forest flair and a bar has been created in Othmarschen Park in Hamburg. In addition to twelve axe throwing lanes, three shuffle boards, three beer pong tables and a nail game can be enjoyed by guests. “Anyone can throw an axe! With the help of our employees, we promise initial success within 15 minutes,” say the founders. “It’s a great, different leisure experience for families with children aged 12 and older, for team building with colleagues, for a first date or simply an adrenaline-filled fun evening with friends!” Tournaments and special axe-throwing events will also be held on Sunday evenings at WoodCutter Hamburg in future.

While axe throwing is already widespread in Canada and the USA, the trend is only just starting to take off in Germany. However, according to the operators of WoodCutter, anyone who fears for their safety when duelling don’t need to worry. In addition to professional instruction and supervision, safety is guaranteed by appropriate safety precautions in the form of double-fenced lanes and safety mats. Of course, each axe-throwing course may only be used individually. Further WoodCutter locations in Germany are already planned for Cologne and Troisdorf (in the Happy Franky FEC). ■
