Bochum-Linden Indoor Pool Reopens After Modernisation

(eap) After around three years of construction, WasserWelten Bochum today reopened the doors of its fully modernised indoor pool in Bochum-Linden together with the city’s Mayor Jörg Lukat.

“The completely modernised indoor pool in Linden is family-friendly and an asset for the south-west of Bochum as well as for the city as a whole,” emphasised Lukat. “Together with the natural outdoor pool, a unique combined facility has been created here, offering ideal conditions for relaxing days with water, recreation and play opportunities.”
As part of the comprehensive modernisation, the indoor pool was repositioned both spatially and in terms of its range of facilities. At its heart remains the 25-metre swimming pool, complemented by a multifunctional activity pool with a movable floor that can be used for various swimming, rehabilitation and exercise programmes. Families and children have access to a dedicated children’s pool with a spray park featuring various water play elements supplied by Roigk, as well as a new sunbathing deck facing the natural outdoor pool. Another new feature is the Waterclimbing climbing wall in the swimming pool, supplied by the Nuremberg-based company of the same name.
“With our Waterclimbing installation, the Linden indoor pool gains a unique feature in the region. Of course, we hope that the attraction will be well received by our guests and that it may even help us attract new visitors to our indoor pool,” said Marcus Müller, Managing Director of WasserWelten.

The sauna area has also been modernised: The refurbished sauna cabin is accessible via a separate entrance and is complemented by a redesigned shower and cool-down area. The adjoining sauna garden is currently still being completed and is expected to become available in around six weeks.
The indoor pool has also undergone extensive energy-efficiency upgrades. The building envelope has been insulated to the German Efficiency Building 55 EE standard, while at least 65 per cent renewable energy is to be used, helping to significantly reduce operating costs in the long term. The energy concept also includes heat pumps, a photovoltaic system, a modern combined heat and power unit as well as a solar absorber system.
WasserWelten Bochum has invested a total of around EUR 26 million in the modernisation of the Linden site, comprising both the indoor and natural outdoor pool. Following today’s opening ceremony, regular bathing operations are scheduled to begin tomorrow afternoon. ■
