Disney Says No to Junk Food Ads

US-based entertainment company Disney has implemented strict new standards for food and beverage advertising on its TV programs and websites as of 2015. Consequently, unhealthy food like junk food or sweets will be banned from Disney channels and websites. Products advertised on Disney channels, on Disney websites and even in Disney theme parks will have to fulfill certain nutrition guidelines. Healthy food like fruits and vegetables will increasingly be advertised there. Healthy food in Disney parks and shops will be labeled with a “Mickey Check” icon to give parents and children some kind of guideline (see picture). With this decisive measure Disney wants to contribute to the fight against the increasing obesity in the US. (eap)
