(eap) As announced by Universal Epic Universe yesterday, park visitors can look forward to the first expansion of the park’s ride and attraction portfolio. Construction is already underway on a new indoor thrill coaster in the “Dark Universe” themed area. The new ride will be located next to the dark ride “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment” and will also be themed around Universal’s “Monsters” IP.
The announcement of the new indoor roller coaster at Epic Universe comes just one and a half years after the official opening of Orlando’s fourth Universal theme park in May 2025 (read all about Epic Universe in EAP 4/2025). Universal has yet to reveal further details about the new coaster or a potential opening date. The investment in expanding Epic Universe’s existing attraction offering so soon after its opening appears to be a logical step in light of the positive business results recently reported by Universal’s parent company, Comcast, specifically in relation to the new park (see EAP News of 28 October 2026).
Visitors can also look forward to new experiences at Universal’s other parks. At Universal Studios Florida, the revamped “Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse” is set to debut later this year. The park is also preparing to open the new high-speed coaster “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” in 2027. A roller coaster of the same name already opened at Universal Studios Hollywood this summer. Reaching speeds of up to 117 km/h, the launch coaster supplied by European manufacturer Intamin is currently the fastest roller coaster across Universal’s entire theme park portfolio.
In the “Jurassic Park” themed area at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, a new full-service restaurant is scheduled to open next year. Meanwhile, the adjacent shopping and entertainment district Universal CityWalk will welcome “Luke Combs’ Category 10”, a new live music and entertainment venue. ■
